Now What?

DONE AND DONE!

I have never been more happy and excited to finish something in my life!  Student teaching wasn’t as bad as it could have been (and I know from experience it can be really bad), but I have never worked so hard with out getting paid.  Not only did I not get paid, but I had to pay to do it.  Wow I’m glad its over!  I have one more class that will be finished January 30th and then I can apply for my teaching credential! I could be a teacher, in my own classroom, CRAZY.  Too bad most districts are having hiring freezes, or worse laying-off a bunch of teachers.  I’ve applied to be a sub, and to teach at charters schools, but I'm still waiting for a response.  In the mean time I have NO IDEA what to do with myself.  Mind you today is my first day off, and it’s a holiday so I wouldn’t be working any way…

I went down to a Buddhist   Temple last week and took an employment test to work as a census taker.  I’ll hear back from them the end of next month, but that is only a few months of work.  Then what?  Anyone out there have connections at an elementary school that is actually hiring?

In other news it's my birthday on Friday and I have decided I really do not want to be 25!  So go ahead and get me stuff, you may even make me a cake, but lets just say I'm turning 24 again. K? Thanks!

Congrats on being done with student teaching! That's great

I felt the same way about turning 25. It was horrible! You're not alone, most of my friends said that 25 was their worst birthday. I didn't even want a party or gifts for it. 26 was much better Not so traumatic.

I'm so happy for you! Yay for no more student teaching! I remember how much work it was. Being the "real" teacher is so much better! Hopefully you'll find placement this summer (when most schools hire their teachers).

Hope you have a Happy Birthday! 25 is easy compared to 30! Live it up!

i am so proud of you! in dental hygiene school we had to get up at 5am to be in l.a. by 7am to clean teeth all day for some of the most difficult patients (and some pretty cool ones too) then drive home from l.a. at 5pm without pay/paying to do it. but that was only 3 times a week- i can't imagine if i had to do it EVERY day. but i know how good it feels to be done and i'm happy for you to have that.

I hope you had a great birthday! You'll see, 25 isn't really so bad.

Congrats on finishing up student teaching. As for the job, I have full faith that you'll end up where you need to be exactly when you need to be there.

Student teaching can be a rude awakening (at least it was for me) but those that were really meant to teach come out of it ready to have their own classroom as soon as they complete it. Teaching is really a 60 hour a week job for the first year because even weekends are spent preparing lessons for the following week. Indianapolis got hit with a ton of layoffs as well.
